1. About MO APYR
Have you ever wondered why Westwood had made third side in Red Alert 2's addon - Yuri's
Revenge so imbalanced and poor at once? Yuri's side had less units than the Allies
and the Soviets, but most of his forces were seriously overpowered. For example - the Magnetron was
pulling enemy tanks closer to your forces, being almost unstoppable due to enemy forces surrounding them, while additionally Yuri was using
Masterminds with their infinite mind-control to take over pulled units. Cloaked Boomer Submarines kept moving close to
enemy base and destroying Construction Yards by cruise missiles quickly, as
it was a matter of luck to notice Boomers ready for strike quickly enough to stop them almost at the beginning of the game. Same for Gattling Cannons which were taking enemy aircrafts off very easily as well as infantry. AI was too idiotic to destroy enemy Psychic Towers without moving it's own units into defense's fire range e.t.c. These and many other imbalances were
annoying players so much, that they have decided to kick Yuri's army from online multiplayer
games. But while they kept marking those bad sides of Yuri's army - his fans and those who really knew how to play even against Yuri always noticed that he had only one country to play as in skirmish game, only TWO naval units, even with only one to attack, no air armada, only SIX troops type and 8 armored units, without serious assault ones. Also, third side was using Slave Miners to
gather resources, which were truly unuseful against real players, as they've been swarmed with snipers or SEALs, killing Slaves and preventing Yuri from getting ore. Though it was liked by many of the players, it was imbalanced, even when it was mobile and could move very close to the mining fields. Many people say that Yuri's side is imbalanced, but only in overpowered way. And who noticed what Yuri lacked of?
Mental Omega APYR is unofficial expansion set for
C&C Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge (Westwood Studios - 2001). Making it, I decided to
make each army more equalized - each of three sides now has own strong and weak
points. I've also divided Yuri's army to four Epsilon countries, in order to make it more similar to the Allies and Soviets. The other aims of MO are to expand whole game - make it better, more interesting and challenging, fix each known bug ingame and add most needed stuff as well as some extra units to increase the fun factor. You won't find such units which destroy
whole bases within one shot. You will find new units and additions very unique, truly expanding the game. MO is supposed to increase your interests especially now - when Tiberium Wars - the second SAGE C&C game was released Yuri's Revenge community is getting thiner and thiner. With MO, you will get new exclusive features, and lots of improved things,
which neither EA nor Westwood managed to fix as they had made only one patch for this game and left
YR. This modification will also make each existing unit more interesting and attractive to be built. Each of them has now
own purpose to be used in game, which also forces to think a bit during the battle what to use, before you get aknowledged with expanded armies.
Mental Omega APYR also continues the storyline from Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, including new missions to follow it. As you remember, one of the worst points in Yuri's Revenge was lack of Yuri's campaign - you could only join Allied or Soviet forces and try to defeat
Yuri in the next war, so Yuri always had to lose. In Mental Omega APYR, Yuri
returns and it looks like he hasn't been eaten by the t-rex. With help
of Epsilon forces he arrived back to "present" times. He managed to highly develop his army, for instance by supporting it with very dangerous cloaking technology. Using it, he conquered all Soviet countries, enslaving the red force. With half of world in his hands, he is preparing to
head Allies in the last battle for domination. But Soviets haven't been
destroyed yet! Some of survivors are hiding in Ural mountains so Yuri sent his
forces to find and deal with them. Now, year after the second Great War, each side of this conflict has constructed new deadly equipment to fight with in hands against all enemies. Allies are being attacked, Soviet legacy is almost
destroyed, Yuri is dominating the half of Earth. Who will win? Allies, Soviets or Yuri and his maniacal Epsilon Empire? The third Great War has begun!
2. Mod Installation
Compared to the pre-2.0 versions, this time installation of the mod will
take a longer while. To install 'Mental Omega APYR' correctly in your Yuri's Revenge, simply place
Mental Omega
APYR 20c.exe
file to your Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge directory (and 'Mental Omega APYR 20c 00.xmlf' file, if you are willing to have full version of modification), but before you launch the file, make sure you have NPatch SE installed. Then press 'Activate mod' to start game. Once you exit Mental Omega, mod will deactivate automatically. You may also open MO website or read ReadMe file using buttons located there.
WARNING: Version 2.0c requires "NPatch SE"
for full functionality. Make sure that you have installed NP (at least
the first SE is required) before activating mod. The "NPatch"
can be found here.
Before you activate 'Mental Omega APYR' make sure that you have:
- Red Alert 2 installed previously patched to 1.006 version
- Yuri's Revenge patched to 1.001 version
- NPSE first release or newer installed
- No other mods activated in game
- No additional INI files except RA2, YR ones put already in directory
- No following files in directory, before activating mod:
ra2md.csf, glsmd.pal, glslmd.shp, expandmd97.mix, ecachemd97.mix
It is recommended to run Marshall's CleanUp program before activation. Get it here.
3. Removing Mod and Patch
To remove Mental Omega APYR v2.0c you don't have to do anything special. After quitting the game, all mod files will be removed automatically, so you won't need to delete them manually. To run mod again, you will just have to run mod launcher again. If you've closed the launcher during the game - sorry, but you have to activate mod again and KEEP IT RUNNING when quitting. Either way what would remove the files?
To remove NPatch, you have to launch it's installer again and select uninstallation of the patch.
4. F.A.Q.
If you have any questions or have
encountered any technical problems, read FAQ first and if it won't help, report them at mod forums.
- I activated the mod, but I don't see any new units in-game.
You probably don't have Yuri's Revenge patched to 1.001 version, which is required to play 'Mental Omega APYR'. To patch your game, you can visit MO website and head to 'Downloads' section, or do automatic patch by entering Online game in your YR. If game reports that your serial number is invalid, you won't be able to patch it as you probably have illegal copy.
- I have encountered Internal Error while I was playing 'Mental Omega APYR'.
Internal Errors are most annoying things for mod makers, if you encountered one, report it at forums including following informations: game mode you played, map (was it original, MO or custom one), your side, enemies side and what were you currently doing while you encountered the error. Also, you should attach the 'except.txt' file that has appeared in your YR directory. We will try to solve it and update the mod.
- The website tells about 5 new countries, Epsilon sidebar and few additions
that are missing in game. If you can select between 10 countries only,
you surerly haven't installed Rock Patch.
- Why can't I play as Epsilon nor as China? The same
problem as above. Epsilon countries are listed as those which are available only with NPatch. Same for China.
- I got Reconnection Error!
Report at forums.
- How can I play 'Mental Omega APYR' online? All
players must have exactly SAME version of the modification and NPatch activated. Rest stays same as in Yuri's Revenge.
- I heard that it's possible to listen to Red Alert 2 themes in MO.
Yes, it's possible. To do this, you have to download
Mental Omega Music Pack, copy THEME.mix from RA2 CD to your RA2 directory and rename the file to expandmd99.mix for instance (97 and 98 are used by the mod).
- Do I need NPatch/Rock Patch for v1.2?
No, you don't.
- Where are campaigns in v1.2? I have different objectives for missions but they are same as in YR!
There are NO working campaigns in v1.2. Get v2.0 and NPatch.
- WTF Where is my teh favourite Flamethrower or Spetznaz?!?! BIATCH!
In v2.0 you won't find them and many other units you could use in v1.2. Balance issues and content issues - those were not neccessary in my opinion.
- I want to have unlimited Centurions. How do I edit the mod?
CHEATING BASTARD! You have to learn how to mod and use XCC Mixer, I won't be doing any special requests for units or such.
- Save/Load doesn't work! Game crashes!
Indeed, they don't work in RP v1.08. They do in NPatch SE, which I've said to use for v2.0c.
- I don't have maps nor new sounds.
Download 'Mental Omega APYR 20c 00.xmlf' file and place it in YR directory before activating mod.
- Why does v2.0c use NPatch instead of Rock Patch?
VK, the current developer of the patch changed the name and continued the project as NPatch.
5. Future & Updates
Mental Omega APYR 2.0c is the MOST final version of the modification,
but if there will be any bugs or issues noticed in the currently released
version, I will release patches in form of single files.
